Chasing Plastic Magazine launches eNews!

Hello all,

Welcome to the first installment of the Chasing Plastic eNews, a short ultimate newsletter. It will go out roughly once a month, and will have brief ultimate news like upcoming tournaments or results, photos of recent events, as well as keep you informed about happenings with the magazine. As a recipient of CP eNews your email address and personal information will never be circulated to other companies, and will be used solely by Chasing Plastic to keep you informed.

In this issue we've got tourney highlights from Labor Day in Santa Cruz and Tune-Up in Chicago, we've got details on our Mexico Vacation Give-away, we have a listing of new products now available on our web site and we've got a special link to some hot photos from Worlds that are only available through CP eNews.
Labour Day 2002 - Santa Cruz, CA
Foggy mornings, swarming bees attacking the strawberry jam, women tripling up in shower stalls and some sweet competition made for a great labour day on the West Coast.

Perhaps benefiting from a lighter Sunday schedule, Vancouver's Furious George cruised to the final while the Santa Barbara Condors worked hard, narrowly escaping defeat at the hands of Seattle Sockeye in quarters, then meeting San Francisco Jam in semis. FG took control, winning 15-11 in a game marked with some uncharacteristic turnovers by the Condors.
Other news: Condors went 1-2 on Saturday losing to both Jam and Portland's Axe. Jam's Damien Scott went down with a broken foot in pool play against Condors and will be in a cast for about 6 weeks.

The womens final was played between the 6th and 7th seeds, showing the parity across the board this season. Colorado's Rare Air lead most of the way, taking the half 8-4. A relentless Vancouver Prime fended off 2 game points and scored 3 straight to finish off the game 15-14, completing the Canadian sweep in mens and womens.
Other news: After finishing 0-3 on Saturday, Rare Air came out strong on Sunday pulling off some huge wins, first taking out top seed Schwa in quarters, then Fury in semis.

Also pulling out the late game comeback was Seattle's Shazam who battled back to squash Donner Party from Tahoe's lead to win the coed division.
Other news: Shazam, Red Fish Blue Fish and Grind were in the same pool on Saturday each finishing 4-1 making for some very tight games.

Tune-Up 2002 - Naperville, IL
Calm and hot for two busy days, the polo fields outside of Chicago again hosted the biggest tournament on the continent.

DC’s Electric Pig met DoG from Boston in the Open final. Pig hounded DoG from the start, and went up by one break at half. Continuing to run hard in the latter half they got a couple more breaks before DoG started a late run at triple game point. It was not to be, however, as Pig closed it out for the 15-13 win.

Other news: Valhalla from San Francisco, Atlanta’s Chain, and Texas Double Wide all played hot ultimate, counting themselves among the top teams competing, while Minneapolis Sub Zero put in a sub-standard performance.

Seattle Riot crushed the rest of the field on the way to the final, where they met Rare Air from Colorado. Riot came out flat and was no match for RA’s fiery conviction. A late rally by Riot was much too little, Rare Air took the win 15-9.

Other news: Nemesis from Chicago, augmented with some West Coast players put in a strong showing, while Atlanta’s Ozone couldn’t get it together and dropped in the Quarters.

Minneapolis’s Hot Action and Three Martini Lunch met in the Co-ed final. Tight to the end 3ML took the game 17-15.
