WUFF
Fall Collegiate Championships 2002 -
Wilmington, NC
The first big test for many
college teams is the WUFF Fall Collegiate Championships.
Still very early in the season, these squads have a lot of
growing to do before their season finale in late May.
In
the Open draw Kansas defeated Virginia in a quarterfinal and
then edged out Iowa on their way to the final. U Penn knocked
off UNC and then squeaked past Illinois in the semi. Tight
to the end, Kansas knocked off U Penn 17-15 to claim this
years title.
The Open B-Side, or Chumpionship as WUFF likes to refer to
it, had Colorado U over William & Mary 19-18.
Notables:
- every team lost at least two games, possibly demonstrating
parity but more likely showing early season inconsistency.
- Open team on the rise this year: U Penn.
The
Womens division had Penn State hammering Illinois 15-6 and
then running over William & Mary to advance. Virginia
beat UNC and then Georgia to get to the final game. Penn State
took the championship 15-10.
The B-Side Chumpionship had Richmond handling UNCW 15-7.
Notables:
- Penn State is undefeated this fall.
- Womens team on the rise this year: Iowa.
