Apart
from the continual harassment I receive at the hands of the
Mangina crew, and apart from them whining about not getting
enough press in the magazine, Boh Down ranks as one of the
best tournaments on the continent. Everything is taken care
of, from the Friday night roast chicken dinner to the unlimited
supply of Boh beer, and of course, there is the fact that
they GIVE A WAY A CAR!!! Or a truck some years.
But enough of the sucking up, Boh Down is fun as hell. It's
about good times with good friends. It kicks off the prairie
touring season, giving all a chance to reacquaint with teams
and players after a dreary winter off.
The most unique feature of Boh Down is the Spirit Award. Last
year some guy flew in for the tournament, and ended up driving
home in a truck. That's right, a vehicle. This year the prize
was an '82 Cougar, complete with custom flame job. It didn't
make it any further than the watering hole, Kelsey's, however,
as the winners were the local Lez-Bohs. Many other teams were
vying for the big prize, and were decked out in costumes and
themes, but the Lez-Bohs hot pink outfits turned the judges'
heads.
The other notable occurrence this year was the weather. Saturday
was fine, but Saturday night the wind came up and interfered
with the Cups games. Of course, this paled compared to the
Sunday meteorological activities. Gale force winds, about
4 C (40 F), and rain. At some points heavy rain. There was
a semi-final that went 45 minutes without a point being scored,
at which time they all gave up and found somewhere warmer.
There was no final, and no tourney winner because the weather
was that harsh. The sideline BBQ was waived in favor of the
bar, where we sat and watched Canada's only hoops squad bow
out of the NBA play offs.
So on with the continuing list of excuses as to my lack of
photos, I add cancelled due to weather. I coached on Saturday,
rather than shot, and didn't risk pulling out the gear on
Sunday morning. So instead here are just few random snaps
that were handed my way.
