Udder Bowl 2001

Nanaimo, British Columbia
 

The Pacific North West's first major tourney goes down every spring on Vancouver Island.  A miniscule Nanaimo Ultimate scene hosts a large and suitably laid back event.  Teams came equipped with costumes both on field and at the party.   

The 2001 rendition of this West Coast classic harkened back past its founding decade for a theme.  Yes, that's right.  The 80's.  Although personally I was less than thrilled at the step back to a big hair era, many people embraced the chance to don hideously garish apparel.  The Saturday night gig was MC'd by quite a good, or rather accurate, 80's cover band, and included a 80's wear competition.  I don't ever need to see harem pants or hair that big again.

And the first of many excuses about shooting photos: Somewhere late in the week before the tourney, one of our team members slutted off to another squad.   This left me with more playing time than lens time, and consequently most of the pics were shot after we were knocked out in the quarters.  Sorry.
