When plans to attend Tempe fell apart, a spot in a van to Mardi Gras was offered. After a 6 hour blast to the Twin Cities and 24 hours in a van with the U of Minnesota squads (including the briefest 2 hour detour in completely the wrong direction and a short stop at Graceland), we rolled into Baton Rouge. We were just in time to eat steaming plates of crawdads out of a barrel at the Friday night welcome party. The south is a little different.
The tourney is mainly College teams, it's still early season, and there was wind to deal with (read sloppy play), however the enthusiasm was there.
Mardi Gras in New Orleans on Saturday night was as expected and advertised: parades, beads, beautiful girls, lecherous guys with cameras, insanely crowded, drinking on the streets, ankle deep garbage everywhere, good music, no washrooms, cool balconies, Hurricanes at walk up windows on the streets, feather boas. For three or four hours in the merriment and mayhem we some how kept a group of 16 together, I think in part to Kylie's perseverance. I would never bet on repeating that feat again.
Triple duty was tough: playing with a squad, working the booth selling merch, and shooting photos. I couldn't keep track of who all the teams were so if you want, send us an email and we'll add names and teams on the photo captions. Oh, and buy some prints.
